Pump it Up

1. From a male's perspective, having sex can also be referred to as "pump it up". Presumably because it consists of thrusting, or maybe because a female's genitals begin to inflame during sex, as she reaches orgasm.

2. In the sport of Body Building, the athlete can rush blood into a specific muscle by doing high quantity of reps using light-weight. This is known as "pump it up" or "the pump".

crop up

To emerge or occur incidentally or unexpectedly
The word crop has several meanings. As a noun it is a swelling on the body, or any rounded or swollen item, for example a bird's gullet, the seed head of a ripe plant or the the rear end of a horse. As a verb it means 'to cut the top or sides off' or 'to gather in' (as in cereal crops). A less well-known meaning is 'to protrude from the earth's surface'.

The context of early printed examples of the term 'crop up' doesn't help us decipher whether that 'crop' is an allusion to the growth of crops or to the 'swollen' meaning. That is because the things that were first said to have 'cropped up' were rounded items which protruded from the ground, i.e. rocks.

roughed up

In a strict sense, the object being descibed has been subject to physical violence. When used as a slang term, the implication is that the said object is undesirable or otherwise crippled.

Strict: The police roughed up a criminal on drugs before arresting him.
Slang: "John's car is roughed up." This would imply that John's car has many undesirable qualities, eg. old, worn, broken, etc
Slang: If your grandmother cooked you a birthday cake and it looked like a lump of sand, you might say that cake is roughed up.

muffed up means fucked up. use "muff" to replace fuck. very fun to use so you dont get in trouble by the parentals or offend the old folks. use different variations of muff too-muffer, muffing, etc.
