This is commonly used by people who think they are the victim or by people who are depressed. This was a normal vocab turned into slang. many people use this on TikTok and may be used when you have nothing to say but "i agree" and it in generally a better word.

essentially you say this when you relate to/agree with someone or something. its similar to for real (fr) in the way that people would say “i *insert action here* fr” on tiktok and twitter. it is said in the comment sections of tiktoks or in the repost messages of reposts you find on your for you page (fyp) on tiktok.

TL;DR when someone says something you agree with you would respond with “real”.

I don't have many "friends" because it's hard to find someone that is real these days.

I've kept it real when everyone around me is fake.

The most important people are the one's who tell the truth and keep it real, rather than someone who thinks they have to put on a front and be fake when they around.
