When a character, despite being intelligent, brave, talented, or an otherwise stalwart and loyal friend is dismissed by fans until they become more attractive, at which point everyone pays attention to how hot they became.

refers to Neville Lognbottom, a character from JK Rowling's Harry Potter series, who was generally unpopular until the actor portraying him (Matthew Lewis) became attractive in time for the film adaptations of the final book.

The transition for a (most likely make) actor from his dorky teen year to his hottness supreem prime. Like the actor that played nevil longbottom from the popular Harry Potter franchise, Matthew Lewis. Mathew was a cute chubby kid, but evolved into a very dorky teen, like one of those weird second forms of a new generation Pokémon. But low and behold, after the Harry Potter ended, he became so hot that most of us honestly couldn’t even recognize him as Neville anymore.
