godsmack 

Generally refers to a decent hard rock band, whose name was taken from the Alice in Chains song "God Smack". Often accused of being extremely derivative of Alice in Chains, but have formed their own brand of rock. Unfortunately, Godsmack has, on occasion, made songs that sound as if they have been influenced by Nickelback ("Bad Religion", "The Enemy").

Godsmack generally receives harsh criticism from those who have heard their singles, but fans understand that Godsmack can actually write good songs, although they do have a tendency to write similar-sounding songs at times.

Listen to "Re-Align", "Immune", "Vampires", or "Stress" if you want a more well-rounded perspective of Godsmack's music. Or perhaps their acoustic album, The Other Side.

"Dude, Godsmack's a complete rip-off of Alice of Chains!"

"Well, the logo and name are definitely taken from the band, and AiC certainly is one of Godsmack's influences, but there isn't really too much to link the two bands."

Godsmack 

A disgusting post grunge band that idolizes and wants to be the band Alice in Chains. Look at the logo, that's not theirs. That's Layne's. He made that, and they ripped him off! Also, look at their album covers and names. Faceless? There's an Alice in Chains album called Facelift. Coincidence? I think not. Look at their All Wound Up cover. It looks alot like Alice in Chains' Dirt album cover. They also made an acoustic EP called "The Other Side" that sounds alot like Alice in Chains' Jar of Flies. Suspicious? Yep. And finally, where did they get the name Godsmack from? That's right, Alice in Chains' song God Smack off the Dirt album. Don't believe me? Look it up. Also the lead vocalist looks and tries to sound like Layne Staley. Hah, he only wishes he was that good.

"It happened at rehearsal when our drummer came in with a big cold sore on his lip. I was making fun of him all day because we had a photo shoot coming up. A heavy metal group from Boston Massachusetts who, although they draw liberally from the former Seattle-based grunge/heavy metal group Alice in Chains, does not come close to approaching their level of artistry, gothic atmosphere, and musical virtuosity. Instead, they come off as posers using a formula to get rich, a group fronted by Sully Erna, who is perhaps the biggest tool in the music industry right now.

John says, "Hmmmmm, that song sounds like it's by Alice in Chains, except the lyrics are infantile, the lead guitar sounds like it's being played by a robot, the lead singer is an idiot, and it sucks!"

Jane replies, "Silly John, that isn't Alice in Chains, that's Godsmack!"
