Around the dank era of memes, Big Chungus was one the the most popular memes around. Centered around an image of a fat Bugs Bunny, many stupid yet funny jokes were created around a single dumb image of a rabbit. The expression “chungy” was created because of this trend. It is typically used to label something as being cool, and is similar to other slang such as, “pog”, “poggers”, and “wholesome 100”. Internet users may have used it seriously a few years ago, but starting around late 2021, chungy and the previously mentioned slang have become more and more commonly used to deliberately express irony. This is stemming off of a genre of humor where individuals purposely try to be as “cringey” as possible in order to get laughs. And saying things like “chungy” and “poggers” can definitely make one laugh.
An example of this genre of humor is in a Diary of a Wimpy Kid parody by an unknown Reddit user called, “Diary of a Band Kid.” I would include a link, but Urban Dictionary prohibited this.
