The chainsmokers started out with member Alex Pall and former member Rhett Bixler who djโd in New York. Their manager later introduced producer/Dj Drew taggart who had just graduated at Syracuse university (shortly after Rhett left). Selfie not long after started climbing the charts everywhere . The real turning point for the chainsmokers was their song roses, released in 2015 . They started becoming very popular in the edm industry . They kept working incredibly hard on their music and when 2016 hit it they boomed with donโt let me down going number 1 in charts all over the world followed by closer. In 2017 they released memories do not open album, this album including different styles of songs which meant being played on the radio ALOT , this meant they had to change up their shows, accommodating for both fans from their radio songs and dance music fans, which is still their general layout of show .In 2018 they released album sick boy. The general theme of this album highlighting issues such as depression and anxiety. Drew later openly spoke of his battle with depression at this successful time which is where the lyrics in this album came from. After the chainsmokers made sick boy, they released their album world war joy in 2019 which featured an exciting circus themed national tour.
As of February 2020 the chainsmokers have been on hiatus working on their new album tcs4.
