when you are on Instant Messenger and put your away message on so you choose who you want to talk to so the douches you dont want to talk to wont talk to you

Away Message Battel!

An AWAY MESSAGE BATTEL!! occurs when you Instant Message someone while your away message is up, and in turn, get their away message - spawning two battling rapid-fire style auto-responses. Your screen scrolls really fast, your heart races; and in the heat of the moment, you yell it loud: "AWAY MESSAGE BATTEL!!"

Auto response from Shower Tim (12:10:01): I'M NOT HERE!!

One who is obsessed with reading everyone on their AIM buddy list's away messages.

Dude: Where is John tonight?
Dude 2: Oh he's eating dinner at his grandmother's house.
Dude 1: How do you know that?
Dude 2: His away message.
Dude 1: Away message stalker.

away message status

putting a quote from or referencing another person in ones away message, thus giving them status. That way anyone who looks at the away message:
1. thinks to themself, "WOW that Person A must be SO cool/funny because they are in Person B's away message"
2. sees that the person putting up the away message must have liked the comment so much they want all the people on their buddy list to see that they interact with cool/funny people.
please note: away message status (or simply, status as it has come to be called) should not be freely given to just anyone. The recipient's comment must be witty, clever and well-timed. Also, it is acceptable to make comments in hopes of getting status, but one should never beg or ask for status (that is a sign of being desperate)

When using AIM or a similar instant messaging service, and your away message comes up in response to someone elses away message.

Twitch: ok, just finished Caprica and the 1st actual episode.... I know you've been telling me this s***t for years, but damn, Battlestar = pretty damn awesome.
