Originally an information sharing virtual community. However, now it is simply a haven for people who think they are entitled to spreading their stupidity, and also people who abuse the anonymous nature of the internet to act like a prat. The worst thing to ever happen to humanity.
Unfortunatley I am not lame enough to invent an example of the rampart stupidity available on the internet, just trust me on this one.

Get the the internetmug. An excellent creation, where you can get pretty much any information you need at the click of a mouse. But most sites (like MySpace and GameFAQs) are overrun by dumbasses, whiners, fanboys and complete assholes who will never get a life if it could save the world.
Social conversations on the internet look a bit like this:
n00b: shut up lol u r gay
Emo: omg wtf i hate you now im gonna cut myself lol
Sensible gamer: I believe the Wii will be better than the PS3 because I feel like playing in a different way this gen.
Fanboy: U FANBOY, EVRY1 NOWS PS3 IZ BETTA DAN DA WII LOL

Get the internetmug. The Internet is the nearest any human will get to a god.
The internet is more powerful than any human in existence
The internet is more knowledgeable than any human in existence
It is a collection of minds across the world that forms a collective consciousness which is much like the trinity
(or the old creatures off the demonata)
It also gains more power with every millisecond and not so far from now will implode on its self leaving us helpless and back in the dark ages because at the time when it implodes it we would have become so dependant upon it that we wouldnt know how to live without it
