Sky Cake

Sky Cake. (as in, "Oh, sky cake...) Interjection. Spoken in order to quell anger against fundamental religious dogma.

Sky Cake, from the Patton Oswalt comedy routine of the same name, refers to the promise of an afterlife as part of the dogma of many religions. In the earliest days of Mankind, posits Oswalt, the promise of sky-cake by the weaker members of society to the biggest and strongest, was what made them quit "killing and raping", thereby allowing civilization to begin. The problem arising when different religions began to squabble over the particular sky-dessert.

From Oswalt:
"So the next time you see some douchebags in front of an abortion clinic, or trying to ban a Harry Potter novel, just say to yourself 'Oh, sky cake... why are you so delicious?'"

Eat the cake, Anna Mae

Eat the cake, Anna Mae (used in Beyonce ft. Jay Z's song "Drunk In Love," is a reference to Tina Turner. Before she became uber famous, her name was Anna Mae. When she was in a diner, after she released her first single, two kids came up to her and asked for her autograph, not her husband's, Ike. Ike got jealous. He got some cake so they could celebrate, but when Anna Mae didn't want to eat it, he said, "Eat the cake, Anna Mae!" and pretty much forced it in her mouth and started attacking her. She was able to get away from her abusive partner, and start her musical career.

king cake

The traditional Mardi Gras circular cake: festively iced with purple, gold, and green frosting. A small bean or plastic doll baby is inserted somewhere in each one. The one who gets this has to provide the king cake next year.

We had the traditional New Orleans king cake. As, as is tradition, it was not very good this year, either. Still, it's a reminder of New Orleans: the best damned city in the country. Even though it's down now, it will come back, so hang loose and let the good times roll.

Let them eat cake

A quote that has long been attributed to Marie Antoinette, although historians have generally concluded that she never said that.
Rousseau published in his work "Confessions" (1770) a story of a "great princess" who asked why the peasants were so upset; when told that they had no bread, the princess flippantly said "Qu'ils mangent de la brioche". Marie Antoinette was only fourteen at the time, unknown to the world, and was not even in France at the time.

The story of the ignorant, callous princess uttering "Let them eat cake" was around for a century before Marie Antoinette was even born. Contrary to saying such a statement, Marie Antoinette once wrote to her family: "It is quite certain that in seeing the people who treat us so well despite their own misfortune, we are more obliged than ever to work hard for their happiness. The King seems to understand this truth."
