The term ‘
road skills’ is the ye olde designation for the formidable faculty of wit, commonly known in modern parlance as ‘street smarts.’ Pray, confuse it not with the vulgar competencies of a common roadman. Its etiology, as scholars jest,
may be traced back to the bewildering
era of ‘Bumfuck B.C.,’ when alliteration was most grievously outlawed—owing, it is said, to
men’s scandalous proclivity for maidens bearing excessively alliterative names”.
1. How Mr. Dickens managed to avoid the plague is a mystery, one can only
imagine he possessed impeccable road skills.
2. “Verily, when Sir Reginald was beset by a band of dubious
pickle merchants in a shadow’d alley, he did not
draw sword nor summon steed—but instead relied upon his most noble road skills, bartering three compliments and a half-eaten turnip to escape unscathed. A true master of the cobbled arts, by my troth.”
