However, it has come to be a slang for purging something due to the main villain of Avengers Infinity War, Thanos, purging half of the universe with the Infinity Gauntlet and Infinity Stones with a snap.

During World War II, Nazi leader and dictator Adolf Hitler snapped over 6 million Jews and many others due to the Holocaust.
