Bake

v. (derogatory) to communally interpret and draw connections between disparate information to draw (often pre-decided, absurd, and/or entirely false) conclusions, as is done in conspiracy theorist communities. Often takes place shortly after an event occurs or information is revealed that, to any reasonable person, would immediately disprove the conspiracy theory.

Originated with the QAnon conspiracy theory, whose followers would call themselves “bakers” following “crumbs” of information given to them by a supposed government insider. This self-identification has been largely abandoned, and the term “bake” is now used mainly by critics of such communities.

Information or narratives which have gone through the above process of interpretation can be said to have been “baked”.

Their prediction of doomsday having not come to pass, the followers pre-heated their ovens and prepared to bake an explanation.

bite and bake to gold

to "bite and bake to gold" is to cut corners and expect everything to turn out well. For example, when baking bread, you can eat ("bite") some of the bread dough, but still bake it "to gold" (golden brown) and having eaten it doesn't matter. usually people use this negatively- i.e."it's not something you can bite and bake to gold"- to essentially mean "don't cut corners".

"Hey, Dr. Bam, do you think I have to sanitize this scalpel?"
"Obviously you do, surgery isn't something you can just bite and bake to gold."

Procrasti-bake

The act of avoiding work or responsibilities by baking, typically involving elaborate or time-consuming recipes that serve as a distraction from the task at hand. Procrasti-baking often results in a delicious treat, but also a delay in completing important tasks. The term "procrasti-bake" is a play on the words "procrastinate" and "bake."

I know I have an essay due tomorrow, but I just can't focus right now - I think I need to procrasti-bake some brownies to clear my head.
