A phrase that can be used to describe that a way of thinking which seems right at face value, is actually illogical or irrational, which can typically be seen from someone with an outside perspective.

"But if video-games are supposed to be an escape from reality, why would you want to make it more realistic?"

"You're missing the point, it's to make the game more fun!"
