deadbeat friend

An unrestricted friend who chooses not to be a regular or supportive fixture in lives of people they call friends; a friend who is MIA for long periods of time then shows up and acts like nothing has happened to interrupt the normal flow of the friendship.
Sandra and I had coffee the other day after not communicating with each other for seven months. She picked the conversation like we had only gone a week without talking. She is such a deadbeat friend.

Pillow-friend

From Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time fantasy series. Used when referring to young novices or Accepted (in training to become Aes Sedai) who are very close friends. Does not neccessarily have a sexual connotation, but refers to young women who share a room or a bed talking late at night about their goals, dreams, experiences: i.e. slumber party.
While pillow-friends as Accepted, Moiraine and Siuan
plan to put mice in Elaida's bed, but they are caught and switched.

People who you are only friends with on Facebook. Most likely you met them once or haven"t seen them and years. Most likely you would avoid or not even recognize these people on the street

Substitute Friend

A friend you kind of know, enough to be besties with them when your real best friend is absent from school or can't go to a party. Someone who usually isn't your first choice, but is nice enough for you to be temporary friends with them until you find your real friend(s). But afterward, you will probably never talk to them again.
Sarah: Are you going to Marcia's party since you guys were hanging out during chemistry class?
Jill: No. She was just my Substitute Friend.
