behavior in which the motivation for sport is presented as 'just for fun,' while in reality it holds a disproportionately high importance in a person's identity and serves as a means of self-validation. It is characterized by:
- excessive involvement in sports
- a high proportion of unusual sports that are socially admirable
- covert comparison
- false modesty or inaccurate perception of social norms regarding sport
- sport is a dominant topic of conversation

He said he got up at 5:30 to go ski touring and went for a run afterwards, because the tour was 'relaxed' with 'barely' 1,300vm. I hate the toxic athleticism at this party.

Go You Athletic Team

Short for GYAT, a saying that is used by coaches, teachers, and more to give motivation to a team playing a game, such as basketball.

Bob: "Hey coach, did you know that GYAT means "Go You Athletic Team"? You should tell that to the girls team playing basketball over there for motivation!"
Coach: "Alrighty!"
Coach: "GYAT! GYAT! GYAAAAAAATTTT!"
