alert the spiders

'Alert the spiders' is a rural colloquialism from northern California where I grew up in the '60's. I heard it from my parents and grandparents (California, New Mexico, Nevada and Iowa) all my life. It referred to rural mail routes out in the country away from town. Often spiders would get into the mailboxes and spin webs. Sometimes we would sweep them out with a broom if they got too close to the front, but often we would just leave them alone. When important letters or small packages were being sent, we would receive a phone call from the sender who would say "Alert the spiders!" and we would know to watch for the mailman who would place the treasure in the mailbox, disturbing the spiders who might get crushed... if we hadn't 'alerted' them.

Grandma called her daughter on the phone to let her know a small package was coming, "Alert the spiders!" she said.

Noun
A 'North-Coast Emo Core' band that transcend reality and bend space and time. They like the colour green and are very spooky but in a cool Beetlejuice type way (however their name is unrelated to this franchise, the origin of it is in fact only known to 6 people worldwide).

Spider Juice is also a dark coloured cocktail comprised of; Cola, Grenadine, Amaretto and Dark Rum. Usually served with a novelty plastic spider or paper umbrella.

Spider-Man

Spider-Man is the greatest hero of all time. He’s not the strongest or smartest but he’s always there everyday giving it his all to fight for justice and hope. No matter how bad things get or how hopeless it may seem Spider-Man gets up and keeps going. He fights for the little guy, the civilians down on our level, the ones not strong enough to defend themselves. He doesn’t do it for pay or fame he does it because with great power comes great responsibility. The best part is that he’s you and me and anyone who’s ever stood up against the odds to fight for others and help people in need. If you’ve ever helped fight the good fight on any level, in your school or around your city guess what, you are spider-man. Anyone can where the mask, you could wear the mask, it’s the heart of the person behind it that makes spider-man.
