A brief interaction with a law enforcement officer that may involve physical assault, indefinite detention without charges and being trafficked to a foreign country. Named after ruling written by Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh.

When US law enforcement uses skin color as the legal basis to detain and demand citizenship papers from anyone out in public. The term was coined after Justice Kavanaugh wrote a poorly reasoned majority opinion for the Noem v. Perdomo application for stay, in which the US Supreme Court conservative majority decided that the use of racism to detain people was likely not illegal and that being detained or arrested for not looking American (white) was only a minor inconvenience.
My neighbor got swept up in a Kavanaugh Stop. She told the Ice agent that she was a US citizen and her last name was Greeley, but he just told her "she didn't look like a Greeley" and he was going to detain her overnight if she couldn't provide her papers.

"Sorry I didn't flush, but you were on that FaceTime with your mom and I didn't want to Kavanaugh you."
