In order for a grab game to take place, there must be a Survivor on a hook. If their healthy teammate is desperate to rescue them in front of the Killer, they must risk being grabbed (and in turn, instantly downed) by the Killer or successfully bait the Killer into mistiming the grab, causing only a hit to take place (which gives the teammate time to rescue the Survivor).
Grab games usually take place in the final moments of a match, when the endgame timer is counting down and the Killer is trying to secure a kill.
Grab games can often unfortunately be ruined for the Killer by server ping.

Like many things in life, you are told not to do and sometimes it is for the best. We should continue to value the legacy of skating and carry on with the joke. The history behind the Mall Grab is simply a great amount of “poser” skaters who have no intent on getting on the board and shredding. Any real skater knows that he will mall grab by accident every now and again.
The mall rat scene at that point was ridiculous,” Sean Gallagher said of working at a shopping mecca in 2002 located in an upper class New Jersey township.
“A lot of those kids would carry boards around for fashion… It’s like the guy who just carries the guitar around and doesn’t play it,” he said.
