When a Fictional Character becomes so popular in a series, that the writers are forced to keep them alive until their popularity dies down within the Fan Base.
Man 1: I wish they'd hurry up and kill off Castiel!
Man 2: Sorry, but the Daryl Effect prevents that from happening!

In any moba game, when playing a character for free or on rotation you seemingly do great getting as many kills as possible. When you buy the character using your own money or the in game currency you seem to go terrible. There is no other explanation for this sudden bad play but the smite effect.
''Man Teemo was on rotation when I played him I went 40 and 0. Dude I bought him and suddenly went 1 and 11. Yeah bro the smite effect at its finest.''

Using a celebrity or high profile individual to add status, glamour, or recognition to a project.
Usually advertising, a charity or a religion.

If we are gonna sell this shit to the public we need to add the Hollywood Effect.
This cult must be a real religion because it has a Hollywood actor as a member.
I'm gonna buy this product because - insert name - uses it.
