The law on cycling safety makes everyone who rides a bicycle under 16 years old in
Georgia legally required to wear helmets while riding on bicycles. This is true regardless of whether the roads are public or private property. The law also states that riders younger than 17 must be accompanied by an adult who is a certified parent on a bicycle licensed by the
government.
However, it could be possible for cyclists to be exempt from the requirement to visit a physician to undergo a medical exam which is required by law. In these cases, cyclists are required to provide their medical certificates to
police prior to riding a bicycle on public roads.
