Rich Idiot Syndrome

A fairly common affliction whereby men (usually) who have acquired wealth through one avenue, believe that they have a wide array of knowledge on a number of topics far removed from anything connected with their wealth acquisition. In some cases, it can also manifest itself in individuals who have acquired fame but not necessarily fortune (see Carson, Ben). Invariably, the individual afflicted with RIS demonstrates a a breathtaking level of ignorance and stupidity on most subjects outside of his area of expertise
