Use of the word "ping" or #ping is commonly used by friends on twitter or facebook to mean agree instead of a "like" or to favorite a tweet. It has been said that it is derived from the sound that an electronic device makes when a notification is sent of an email, facebook message or a mention on twitter.
W: Why oh why does this network NEVER promote their TV shows, do they want it to fail?
E: PING
W: The world has returned to its original orbit, all is now right in the world
Send a very short electronic message to someone. Based on the ping network utility program that sends a small packet to a server across the network to see if it responds and is online.
Typically used on Discord, a ping is meant to symbolize the sound or notification you get whenever someone @ mentions you, or sends you a direct message.
