A form of bait designed to provoke a user into doing something negative, controversial, or illegal—actions that can have consequences both online and in real life. Actionbaiting involves manipulating someone into behavior they wouldn't otherwise consider: breaking a rule, harassing another user, engaging in illegal activity. The baiter provides temptation, removes obstacles, offers encouragement, and documents every step. When the target acts, the evidence is used against them—reported to authorities, shared publicly, used to destroy reputation. Actionbait is the art of turning people into perpetrators for entertainment.
Example: "He goaded her into sending a angry message to a troll, assuring her it would feel good, that no one would care. She did. He screenshotted it and reported her for harassment. Actionbait had worked: he'd provoked the action, then used it against her. She was banned; he was still there, baiting the next target."

Get the Actionbait mug.A form of goalpost manipulation where the ultimate objective is to get a user to do something that can be used against them. The actionpost is the moving standard of acceptable behavior, the shifting boundary that the target is provoked to cross. First, they're encouraged to break a small rule. Nothing happens. Then a bigger rule. Still nothing. Then a major rule. The boundaries keep expanding, the consequences keep not coming, until the target finally does something catastrophic. That action is captured, screenshotted, reported. The actionpost has done its work: lured the target step by step into self-destruction.
Example: "They wanted him banned, so they set up an actionpost. First, they encouraged him to post off-topic. He did; no warning. Then to be slightly rude. He did; still no warning. Then to attack another user. He did; still nothing. Emboldened, he went further—harassing, threatening, crossing every line. Finally, he doxxed someone. Immediate ban, permanent record, potential legal trouble."

A form of honeypot designed specifically to get users to do something negative, controversial, or illegal—a server, community, or group created to encourage rule-breaking behavior, then document and report it. An actionpot might present itself as a place where "anything goes," where norms are suspended, where rebellion is celebrated. In reality, every rule-breaking action is recorded, every illegal act documented, every participant a potential target. Users join seeking freedom; they leave facing consequences.
Example: "The server advertised itself as a place with no rules—say anything, do anything, be free. Users flocked to it, pushing boundaries, breaking norms, doing things they'd never do elsewhere. Then the screenshots appeared—every rule-breaking moment, every illegal act, attached to real names. The actionpot had been a trap from the start, designed to harvest bad behavior for exposure. The users paid; the potters laughed."

Get the Actionpot mug.The infinitive form of this intransitive verb is "to actor". In a scene where an actor is actoring, that person's focus on winning an award is what comes through to the audience, rather than the character that the actor is supposed to be playing. Actoring most often happens in an emotional scene full of tears, during a monologue, or while the actor is staring into space contemplatively and wistfully, but actoring can be done in almost any scene that involves a long close-up shot of the thespian's face. Most actors will actor at most once or twice during the entire run of a television show or in a single movie. But some people, such as Nicolas Cage, have a special talent for actoring.
Ppphhhh. He's actoring right now. I guess he wants an Oscar nomination. So much for the suspension of disbelief.
