1: An extinct East Germanic Tribe whose language died out over a century years ago. Famous for sacking Rome.
2: An alternative subculture centered around goth music from the late 70s into the early 80s. Once fans of Punk, they developed a darker style of Post-Punk that would be called Gothic Rock. Today, goth music includes: Gothic Rock, Deathrock, Dark Wave, Ethereal Wave, Cold Wave, (some) Gothabilly, and Batcave. Many goths also like New Wave, Post-Punk, Industrial, and Shoegaze. (Note: all genres of Heavy Metal including Gothic Metal and most of Industrial are *not* goth. neither is Emo, a type of Hardcore Punk fused with Indie Rock nor gothbois, a group of soundcloud rappers).
Goths are not depressive or self-harming, this is a stereotype from the 2000s. Goths also do not believe in asinine and false concepts like "seeing beauty in darkness" or the worse notion that goth is a lifestyle. Goths are not "all accepting" and have genre rules just like Metalheads and Punks. Goths are not a trash bin for any social outcast, and they aren't always kinky or promiscuous either. Goths are people with a common taste in music and dress a certain way to find their tribe. Goths are otherwise like any other person with differing interests, needs, socio-economical class, political beliefs, ethnic backgrounds, and personalities. The only difference from the general population is they keep their music scene underground and away from mainstream media.

Get the Goths mug.Once was considered a Germanic tribe long ago, it is used now as a music genre branched from punk. It mainly came from the late 1970s to the whole entire decade of the 1980s. The goth music genres are mainly Post Punk, Gothrock, Nowave, and Deathrock. It was originally founded in the United Kingdom, and some of the bands were Siouxsie Sioux and the Banshees, Bauhaus, and Joy Division for example. The goth music and fashion scenes were also popular in the United States, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand in the same time periods. Most of the people who liked goth music liked the spooky sounding music. Goth is mainly about the music, but there are two styles of goth; Trad Goth and Deathrock. Deathrock dressed in deathawk, tartan pants, leather jacket, and the like. Deathrock is also to describe one of the branches of goth music. Alien Sex Fiend is an example of a Deathrock band. Trad Goths liked their hair really teased up and liked to wear leather jackets, vinyl pants or skirts, and wore their favorite post punk, deathrock, goth rock, or no wave band shirt. The batcave was very popular place to go to for goths. Mainly goth music and fashion is a diy, so most goths went to thrift stores to get their clothes. Joy Division is one of the most popular and cult like bands in the goth music scene today. Some other goth bands are Specimen, Sex Gang Children, The Cure, and The Birthday Party.
Goth was once known as a Germanic tribe, but now today Goth is a music genre from the 1970s to the 1980s. It also had DIY fashion.

Get the goth potato mug.A hateful word full of prejudice and stereotypes, used against younger people, who are yet not really achieve the aesthetic of goth and know its own kind of music. These batlings are mostly newcomers to the alternative subcultures, cannot really divide their fashion styles, and usually buy stuff from cheaper mall stores. Instead of educating and giving help, this word is most likely responsible for turning off these young people from finding their own true path in the alternative scene.

Get the Goth mug.An individual of the gothic persuasion, who lives in squalor, doesn't bathe often but eats lots of chips and mayonnaise. Their clothes often don't fit them very well, they're either too small or too big. Often found in deprived areas of Newcastle, loitering around school gates, corner shops and bus stops. Not to be mistaken with your typical radgie but they are of the same breed.
