A study nerd is a person who loves to study. They usually get a 4.0 by the time they get out of high school or college.

IMan #1: What are you doing?
Man #2: Stuying for a test, tomorow.

Functional nerd

A person that is a nerd but unlike most nerds does not lack the necessary social skills to interact with non-nerdy people in a nature way.

Bob: Wow Ian is such a nerd.

Alina: Yes but at least he isn't awkward to be around. He's a functional nerd.

A person who loves literature because reading is FUCKING AWESOME. More often then not, these people are also Grammar Nazis.
