A major, significant, and climatic boss fight mostly found in story-driven video game with some exceptions that culminates to and marks the endpoint of a specific chapter or section of the narrative or game; usually testing the player's skill from progression and tying off the narrative or gameplay section of a game as important gameplay or story milestones. Unlike regular boss fights, Chapter Bosses are uniquely designed to be memorable, often with distinct mechanics, narrative significance, or heightened difficulty, providing a sense of closure or progression to a particular section of the game.
Non-narrative driven games often tie Chapter Bosses to the completion of a world or section, acting as a gatekeeper to the next area or progress and emphasizing gameplay mastery or a unique challenge.
Narrative driven games have the Chapter Boss deeply integrated into the story, often representing a pivotal antagonist or thematic culmination of the chapter’s events. These bosses may carry emotional weight, reveal key plot points, or symbolize the protagonists’ growth. Their battles often blend narrative context with unique mechanics, making them stand out as story milestones.

"Knucklotec from Super Mario Odyssey was an awesome chapter boss as I thought it perfectly encapsulated Sand Kingdom and was a great send off that wrapped up that portion of the game."
"The Beast from Bug Fables was an amazing chapter boss for Chapter 5, it was an interesting and difficult fight that represented the dread of the swamp well, it even perfectly tied into Kabbu's arc as well."

Get the Chapter 2mug. The game danganronpa is a good example of the 3rd chapter effect. In all 3 main games, the 3rd chapters are criticised for seeming rushed, as if they had to kill off two characters. The double murder in the 3rd chapter is olmost tradition at this point. But hey, the 3rd chapters usually have the best memes like the glorious sEeSaW EfFeCt.
