The "Carolingian" Frankish dynasty success during the early middle-ages contributed to its diffusion and makes it a common name for Monarchs of European nations/confederations and European royal Dynasties member (f.e. Hapsburgs, Stuart and Bourbons all had their fair share of Charles).
