someone who follows the rules all the time and generally has no fun. Someone who associates with these guidelines to the fullest extent probably has a literal square head, because it is filled with no fun. Also, they tend to stink.

Schmill Connor has such a square head. all he does is follow the rules and has no fun in his life. I cant even eat around him because of his odorous smell and his lack of fun.

A square shit is painful and difficult, due to the presence of pointed corners at the edges, so to "take a square shit" means one's reaction to a situation or its outcome must be equally painful and likely beyond hope.
