Trevor, the quintessential post-optimist, couldn't refrain from telling his mother how nice Thanksgiving had been -- all this in lieu of his chronic diarrhea.

A virtual optimist is a person who portrays a positive and hopeful future on social media, while generally not doing anything in real life to impact that future, expecting it to happen on its own.
You need to stop being a virtual optimist about this neighborhood, it hasn't improved in 20 years and has only gotten worse, as no one does anything to improve it.

Somebody that tries to discourage people from seeing every negative thing that could happen down the road somewhere and focus on the positive is someone that doesn't want you to see or know their true intentions. Never trust someone that pushes people to be overly optimistic about something that nobody has a good reason to be optimistic about.
Why should people trust someone that tells them to be optimistic as long they have gotten a vaccine, worn a mask, or done everything else they've been ordered to do in the past year? Things aren't going to get better, but that sounds good, so it keeps most people in line with their agenda.

The Cleveland Browns look good this off-season and it should be their year, but they’re the Browns so I’m cautiously optimistic.
