An online prank where the user is unknowingly misdirected to a video of Rick Astley. Usually done with YouTube videos related to unconfirmed gaming news.

I wanted to see GTA IV footage but got Rick Roll'd instead.

What happens when you click on a link/video, thinking it's something of interest (like porn, free online movie/show, or something your friend recommended), but it leads you to the music video for Rick Astley's "Never Gonna Give You Up".

This trick is pretty common because the video or link looks promising with an according title and thumbnail.

(NOTE: Very common on Youtube)

Man 1: "Hey dude, I'm sending you this link to this killer porn site! Best ever!"

Man 2: "All right!" (clicks on link)

(Rick Astley's "Never Gonna Give You Up" plays)

Man 1: "Dude! You just got Rick Roll'd!)

When you are mislead to believe you are watching something interesting, then suddenly get a glimpse of rick astley singing "never gonna give you up" which then leads the victim to a disease of curse words and death threats to the one who was doing the Rick Rollin'
