paddy's law

"A well-known rule that any reddit thread that becomes large enough will eventually have an American pretending to be Irish." -u/MacHaggis

Americans often like to identify themselves as the nationality of their ancestors despite not having that nationality themselves. They'll claim to be Irish on forums like Reddit, where you expect someone saying they're Irish to be from Ireland.

While interacting with people actually from Ireland, they still claim to be Irish despite having no connection to the country. Usually they cite culture and bloodlines as the justification.
"I'm Irish, which is why I've always wanted to visit Ireland. My great-great grandmother was from Ireland, so I'm both culturally and genetically Irish. I grew up hearing all about Ireland because it's my family's homeland. I've never heard of 'The Troubles' though, is that a new band?"

"As an actual Irish person, you're not Irish, you're American. Paddy's law strikes in every goddamn thread."

Paddy's Peril

An ultra smooth cocktail served on the rocks in a chilled champagne glass. Contains 60 ml Baileys Irish Cream, 30 ml vodka, 30 ml coconut milk, dash of grenadine. Very sweet and satisfying. Goes down like a highly alcoholic chocolate milk. Enjoy.
The Paddy's Peril can easily be passed off as a glass/flask of chocolate milk in any place or for any occasion. I'm not suggesting you could take it to work and drink it right in front of your boss without him/her ever having the slightest idea, but there you go. ;)

To get drunker than normal due to all of the shots and strong drinks at Paddy's, a well loved neighborhood bar in the Joliet area.
"Ugh, stop at Joe Dog on the way home. Shep got me Paddy's drunk again on those bloody marys and shots he was pourin'."

Paddy's First Law

Paddy's first law states that regardless of the situation, or your own perceived cunning and or guile, you are always more transparent than you think you are.
PR: Hey, did you see the crest on that girl's binder? I'm not sure if she's in undergrad, and if she is, man would i like to kick her out of the law library. I tried to read it, but couldn't make it out!

MH: Yeah, everyone saw you looking man, and I'm pretty sure we all heard you muttering to yourself about undergrads in the law library...

PR + MH: Paddy's first law!

paddy's motorbike

a trench rammer or "Wacker" - basically a petrol engine driving a flat stomper, used for compacting earth back into a trench or flattening local repairs in tarmac.

So called because of its prolific use by apparently irish road labourers.
this hole's ready for filling, we'd better go and borrow Paddy's motorbike.

Paddy's bike

So called because to charge the cylinder you had to stand in the cut-outs in the body and jump up and down before tripping the magneto and causing the huge cylinder to fire. The Irish construction workers were so adept at this, and with the rammer being so cumbersome, they could 'ride' the rammer across the site to the trench by remaining stood in the side cut-outs! As a young plant mechanic, I was amazed to actually see this skill in action - Truly, paddy's bike!
