murketing

A viral marketing tactic where misdirection is key. Corporations often simulate user-generated content to manufacture a "must see" phenomenon. Once circulated extensively, the company will reveal itself as the source in an attempt to re-examine the purpose of the video. Often meant to blur the line between art and commerce.
Phil: Holy shit, did you see that video where those guys use cell phones to pop their popcorn???
Ad man:Yes son, that's the just the latest in murketing. Now go visit xxxxxx's website to reward them for exploiting your stupidity.
