Whiny crossbreed of 80s metal and any number of other elements (rap, hip-hop, and occasionally classical music). Usually involves people wanting to slit their wrists and die as bloodily as possible because they hate the world and everyone in it. Nu-metallers can probably be found in every town in the western world. You will know them by their Slipknot/Korn/Limp Bizkit/System of a Down hoodies and black cloud over their head that comes from being 15 and their parents 'not understanding them'.

people underrate nu metal because they are babies and don't want to try anything other than iron maiden, who suck by the way. people never even give nu metal a chance. they have not heard the great nu metal bands like mudvayne and disturbed, which actually have meaningfull lyrics, unlike Iron Maiden which sings about fricking Noah's ark in Number of the Beasts. Give nu metal a chance its the best music to ever be created

Nu Metal
Nu Metal is a form of music that evolved from punk/hardcore in the metal deprived years of the early nineties. The band that is most often credited with the creation of Nu Metal is KoRn, or in other words the greatest band ever. Nu Metal is unique because unlike heavy metal which involves a more complicated and changing guitar riff, a Nu Metal riff is more repetitive and simpler, which means that most songs revolve around the tempo/pitch of the riff. Nu Metal has been on the descent because of shit bands like Limp Bizkit and slipknot, but many people fail to realize several other good Nu Metal bands such as Tool, KoRn, Godsmack, and Disturbed. Another thing, metal was failing miserably in the nineties, especially after the grunge era with bands like Nirvana, and metal was going to soon be pronounced dead, but like I stated earlier, with the arrival of bands like KoRn metal was reenergized and popular again. So the next time your going to bash Nu Metal, or a Nu Metal band, thank them (or at least the early ones, some new Nu Metal bands like slipknot suck) for saving the heavy metal that we all love today

Nu Metal
A sub genre of metal often criticized for not being "true metal". I could get more into that but I won't because we could spend hours arguing about what bands are true metal and which aren't, but in the end it does not matter that much. The point is, do you like the music? Nu Metal has hip hop influence. Nu Metal bands are usually pretty whiny, image obsessed, and all too happy to sell out. One band that is often mistaken for Nu Metal is System of a Down, despite the fact that the record company admits to putting that label on them because they couldn't figure out what the deuce they were, the members say that hate Nu Metal, and if any one actually listened to them they would realize that they are far off from being even close to Nu Metal, or much of any definable genre, metal snobs go on ahead anyway and hate them because they are insecure about their own musical taste. Real Nu Metal is very generic, unreal, and meant only to sell records. The target audience is angst filled, rich, spoiled teenagers who don't realize just how great their lives are.
Examples of Nu Metal:
Korn (Go away. You don't know how to spell.)
Slipknot (You're right, no body loves you.)
Linkin Park (Just shut up. Now.)
Examples of "real metal" (not going to get into exactly what sub genres these guys belong to):
Cannibal Corpse (My brother is a big fan, they still scare me too much, haha)
Pantera (They rock.)
Gojira (Love them too!)
Example of doing their own thing and not caring what anyone thinks:
