Stalkering

The process of using stalker-like tactics to figure out the mental or emotional state of another person in lieu of just asking them.

The person receiving the attention is being stalkered.

Not to be confused with stalking, in which the person is actually obsessed with someone.
Bob: "I wanted to see if Megan was over her ex, so I logged into her Verizon account to check out how often they still text each other."

Bill: "Wow that's some clever stalkering, what did you find?"

Bob: "They were texting at 3 AM the other night. I'm gonna dump that ho!"

heartbreaking work of staggering power

1. n. A book or movie, often part of a school curriculum, that is renowned for its symbolism, examination of underlying themes, and emotional impact on the consumer. 2. n. A book or movie that leaves the consumer questioning the meaning of life and finding it devoid of all warmth and happiness.
"Have you read 'The Yellow Wallpaper?'"
"Why, yes. I found it to be a heartbreaking work of staggering power."
"...This is going to depress the hell out of me, isn't it?"
"Oh, yeah."

stampeding herds

Masses of mindless people or critters all hell bent toward a common goal. See committee mentality.
Many times, crowds of people will see someone do something, and think they should do it too, even though they have no idea why the first person did it. They become stampeding herds of two-legged cattle.
