Different stories of Penis- Theft hysteria have been seen in different areas of the world. In Senegal, for example, cannibal witches or impotence spells cast by sorcerers can be used in a penis theft. This is believed to be an epidemic, with 20 witches accused of penis stealing being lynched in Nigeria in 2001, and 12 in Ghana in 2002. As recently as 2008 a mass- hysteria of taxi drivers in Congo wearing gold rings believed to be penis stealers.
