Probably a combination of 'twirl' and 'dizzy'. When kids in the 60s, a bigger stronger person would give you a 'twizzy' by standing behind you and lifting you up under your armpits and twirling you round.

Back in the day as kids, someone who picked you up off the ground from behind, arms round your belly, and twirled you round and round in a circle until you were dizzy. Probably a combination of twirl and dizzy

Popular UK expression, especially 20 or thirty years ago = when your life or a situation is fast deteriorating or going rapidly downhill

Tubes = probably has its origins in toilet tubes or pipes
We were good at first but our relationship is going down the tubes
