A phenomenon partly fueled by human's tendency for confirmation bias.

Echo chamber is an environment where a person only surrounds themselves with information that aligns or supports their existing belief/opinion, which only further reinforces their beliefs/opinion and becoming a vicious cycle.

It is one that greatly contributes to the polarization of people in social media.

And with the help of algorithms applied by social medias. This phenomenon becomes far more easy to fall into since it brings people to find like-minded communities and feed them the same thing over and over again.

Echo chamber is one of the reasons why 'factions' exist amongst societies. When you are inside an echo chamber, you are only expose to the best side of your beliefs and the worst side of your opposite beliefs. And this only leads to everyone thinking that 'the other side' is dumb and has no logic.

Echo Chamber is a poison that you should escape from. It is one of the major blocks that hinders critical thinking and discourages people from questioning their own beliefs/assumptions.This only leads to stagnation and ultimately, a lack of progress.

Bad examples:
-Climate Change is not real
-earth is flat'

Good examples:
-the belief that environmental issues are the biggest issues we are currently facing and those that don't care is considered ignorant or uncaring.
-strict gun control. Pro-Gun vs Anti-Gun
-abortion issues. Pro-Life vs Pro-Choice
-Echo Chamber in effect-

First example: Pro-Life vs Pro-Choice
"Abortion is the taking of innocent life and goes against the fundamental right to life."
"Denying women access to abortion forces them to carry unwanted pregnancies, which can have serious physical, emotional, and financial consequences."

Second Example: Pro-Tate vs Anti-Tate
-"Andrew Tate is a bully who uses his platform to spread hate speech and promote toxic masculinity." (anti-Tate)
-"Andrew Tate is just telling it like it is. The truth hurts, and that's why people are so triggered by him." (pro-Tate)
-"Andrew Tate is a misogynistic and racist influencer who uses shock tactics and controversy to gain attention and followers." (anti-Tate)
-"Andrew Tate is a confident and outspoken personality who isn't afraid to speak his mind, which is refreshing in today's overly politically correct society." (pro-Tate)

Calling out an individual or a group publicly for offensive behavior in order to hold them accountable for their actions and force them to face consequences. This is mostly done on social media and is frequently mistaken as cyberbullying.

This phenomenon is quite controversial, with some seeing it as harmful and others seeing it as beneficial. And I'm on the former.

Although this tool gives everyone the ability to express themselves and empowers marginalized communities that have long been ignored. And, of course, to hold the "powerful" accountable.

It is by no means an excellent tool. Everyone, and I mean EVERYONE, can use this tool. Both the good and the bad. but mostly bad.

It's the equivalent of arming everyone, including children and teenagers (both literally and mentally) with firearms. However, unlike firearms, where police continue to hold people accountable for using their tools. People are free(alt account) to attack anyone who offends them even slightly.

And it doesn't have to be objectively offensive to the majority of people. So long as a small 'marginalized' group agrees with your sensitive heart. The cancellation process could then begin immediately.

Cancel culture is a powerful double-edged sword that we are providing to everyone. Meaning that the dumb people will use it frequently because it is powerful, whereas smart people will use it sparingly, i.e. rarely.

Remember, there are more adults with a child mentality than a child with an adult mentality.
1st conversation:
Person A: I can't believe they canceled that celebrity for something they said 10 years ago.
Person B: Well, they have to be accountable for their actions, even if it was in the past.
Person A: But shouldn't we forgive and move on?
Person B: Forgiveness is important, but we also have to hold people accountable and create a culture where harmful behavior is not tolerated.

2nd conversation:
Person A: Did you hear about that person who got canceled on social media?
Person B: Yeah, I'm really getting tired of cancel culture. It's like people are just looking for any reason to be outraged.
Person A: I know, right? It's like we're not even allowed to have differing opinions anymore.
Person B: Exactly. It's creating a toxic environment where people are afraid to speak their minds.

When this term became popularized, initially the meaning of this term was when an individual become more aware of the social injustice. Or basically, any current affairs related like biased, discrimination, or double-standards.

However, as time passed by, people started using this term recklessly, assigning this term to themselves or someone they know to boost their confidence and reassure them that they have the moral high grounds and are fighting for the better world. And sometimes even using it as a way to protect themselves from other people's opinion, by considering the 'outsider' as non-woke. While people that are in line with their belief as woke. Meaning that those 'outsiders' have been brainwash by the society and couldn't see the truth. Thus, filtering everything that the 'outsider' gives regardless whether it is rationale or not.

And as of now, the original meaning is slowly fading and instead, is used more often to term someone as hypocritical and think they are the 'enlightened' despite the fact that they are extremely close-minded and are unable to accept other people's criticism or different perspective. Especially considering the existence of echo chamber(media) that helped them to find other like-minded individuals, thus, further solidifying their 'progressive' opinion.

2nd paragraph

3rd paragraph
"Fatphobic?! Misogyny?! What's wrong with preferring a thin woman?! And she is morbidly obese for god sake! Why should I be attracted to her?! Why should I lower myself while she refuse to better herself?! These woke people are a bunch of ridiculous hypocrite!"
