A title held by Malaysians who made significant contributions to Malaysia, and is often a title awarded by the Sultan of their respective states. However it is common knowledge that the title can be purchased via bribery, so it is not uncommon for people with the "Dato" title to treat their lower class citizens like trash.

A title held by Malaysian women who somehow managed to spread their legs for a Dato, and now walks around as if they own the damn place.
"My name is Datin Leong, I find your service to be incredibly bad as you did not roll out the red carpet for us at your restaurant despite me CLEARLY telling you that I hold a Datin title! I demand compensation for this!"
