sandbag

To stab someone in the back; usually secretively.

"I thought I was going to get the job as an internal candidate, but my co-workers sandbagged me by saying they wanted me to get the job and then they all voted against me."
"We decided to sandbag her when she said she wanted to be the lab manager. For a whole week we posted wrong information in all the reports. She wound up getting demoted."
