When you sing a song in your head, stop, and swear you hear it playing in the background.

Person 1:Doo, doo, doo, doo, doo... doo.... dooooooooo!
Person 2: Please shut up.
Person 1: Fine.

Person 1: Did you just hear that?
Person 2: Hear what?
Person 1: The song I was singing I just heard it playing!
Person 2: Nah, that was just ear music

Essentially it means hearing all the details in a piece of music.

Sounds and vibrations that others have a hard time hearing or even cannot hear at all,

allowing someone with this ear to enjoy and understand music on deeper level.

musician's ear 

term used by guitarists to explain why they are buying a new instrument when there is nothing wrong with the one they have, under the pretense that normal people's ears aren't as attuned to the sound of a guitar. skeptics often see this as a bullshit excuse to buy a cool new axe for purposes of showing off.

dude1: why did you buy that ibanez? it sounds just like your stratocaster!
dude2:no way man, they're totally different. you just don't have the musician's ear.
dude1:whatever man, you just bought that cuz it looks cool.
