An exciting, fast paced and skillful game played in Australia, primarily in the southern states and out towards the west. hated by most people from New South Wales and Queensland, who much prefer rugby league and union, both great codes in themselves.

Australian Rules is designed to reward attacking style play, rather than defending ones own goal. this leads to high scoring matches, especially since a goal is worth 6 points.

unique in the way in which the game rewards a miss on goal with a solitary point, but is fantastic in that it leads to sides coming back from less than a goal down to win a game with a shot on goal once the final siren has sounded - as thrilling as any football ("soccer" *groans*) penalty.

currently 16 teams exist in the game, but will soon be 18, as new sides are being assembled in western Sydney and the Gold Coast. i wish them luck - they're gonna fuckin need it having 3 people show up to each home game.

Despite what many other AFL fans say, i will tell you straight up that the sport is not, and will not, be big outside Australia any time soon. and btw yes i am a very passionate AFL supporter.

A fantastic sport for the millions of passionate fans, i strongly recommend you look into it, you'll most likely either love it, or become confused and angered by it.
Me - "went to the Anzac day game yesterday"

Some bloke "Australian Rules Football? any good?"

Me - "Essendon beating Collingwood in front of 90,000+ people? of course it was fucking good, go play in traffic.

The most over-rated football game in the world. Skinny weak 'men' fumbling a football around for 2 hours. No skill. No courage. No toughness. No contact, It's called 'Aussie Rules' by its southern fans. Everyone else in Australia calls it 'Pussie Rules' or 'Netball with kicking'. Give it a miss.
Watched netball? Add kicking and that is what you have. 'Aussie Rules'. Netball with kicking. A girls game.

The manliest of games on earth.
Australian Rules Football is manlier than American Football because it requires athletic ability (fat blokes can't stand in a line and grope one another all game).

Australian Rules Football is manlier than Rugby because you need skills other than passing a ball down a line while running forward.

a pathetic excuse for aussies to excel in something, they are inept at real sports like football and rugby and thus they created their own "sport" to give themselves something to cheer about
random aussie: "ello mate! lets watch some australian rules football"
Any other person from another country: "i'd rather not"

Australian rules football is the greatest sport on Earth. With 18 teams competing in Australia’s most popular sporting competition the Australian Football League, highly powerful and athletic players clash for the yearly premiership and for their passionate supporters. Not just national, but local football is also very intense as people come from far and wide to unleash the passion for their club. Australian rules football is the game for everyone, and is growing in popularity overseas in Oceania, Asia, Europe, North America and the United Kingdom.
My mate Jimmy follows Australian rules football, and him and all of his mates reckon it is the greatest sport in the world. Because it is!

If you’re a true Australian, then you’d follow a true Australian sport for a true Australian sporting competition, most preferrably Adelaide

A sport in Australia only nationalised in the late 80s, yet is already easily the most popular sport in the country. It is the most popular sport all over Australia except for eastern NSW and Queensland. The game is religiously hated in coastal NSW for no reason in particular.

Australian rules football has its flaws, however once you get to know it, you will realise that it is one of the most all-round sports in the world. What I mean is that to play "Aussie rules" as it is also dubbed, you must be strong, fast, extremely endurant, courageous, skillful, smart and also have that added X-factor to make the athletically impossible possible.

The game is played 22 a side with 4 players on the bench and unlimited rotations. The ball starts in the centre and the players need to get it forward and kick the ball inbetween two large posts. The game is very hard to explain in words and I recommend you watch some games or just simply look up AFL on youtube.

It is a brilliant sport and is probably the most all around challenging to be elite at, as it is rare to be good in all the neccessary areas. You could say it requires the perfect athlete with a very good sporting brain.

The sport will not go global any time soon but will probably become what the NFL is to America.

In the end, I recommend watching it with someone who is knowledgeable of the game, who can explain its little intricacies. Watch it a few times and you will either love it or become confused and angry.
Australian Rules football is the most popular sport in Australia, followed by cricket then rugby (both forms).

What you get when you allow Australian convicts to invent a sport.

They should change it to the CFL (Convict Football League).

- Shockingly minimal skill (kicking and catching a "ball")
- Atrocious off-field antics (Public urination)
- On field goings-on, including testicle grabbing
- Only "sport" in the world to reward failure eg. If the player misses the goal, he is rewarded with one point
- Search 'AFL'on the internet, and you will be amazed at what you will find
- Stabbings at games *are always covered up due to the AFL friendly media...they do a good job*

I am thankful that I have one full Australian father and a non-Australian mother. Thanks to mum I was not kept ignorant (as all Austalians are), to the sheer atmosphere, velocity, adrenaline and awe-inspiring skill that is Football (Soccer *said in a cringing, childish voice*),that full Australians just do not get. I feel sorry for them and for all who do not understand this.

I am sure this is not the case, but Football is what God made legs for :). It is one of the greatest sources of happiness; particulary for the poor, sad children of the earth. Whatever you beleive in (a major problem in our world)just be happy and positive. Please...

I do not like 'australian rules football', I love Football it makes me happy...Oh and I haven't even started on Criket. :)
