A composite of the words "graphic artist" and "musician," describing a designer who creates graphics pixel by pixel. The word was first introduced in the Commodore C64 demo and cracking scene, in the scene magazine Sex'n'Crime, published by Amok.

The last guy that got his ass handed to him by Sammael Cain. Also, probably the worst cartoonist in history. In fact, he was so bad that Disney turned over in his grave when he was compared to him.

The origins is a complicated story. In the demo scenes for classic computers such as but not limited to, the Commodore 64 and Amiga and other computer platforms of the era, the term has been associated with being a composite of "graphic artist and musician". In some cases, that was kind of true for some individual. It is more of a demoscene's portmanteau of GRAPHIC TECHNICIAN. Remember that graphics on computers in those days were more technical and the work of said person is more technical oriented. So a graphic technician was a graphic artist or designer but also more technical given computers were technical things. A graphic technician or graphician would sometimes need to do some coding (programming).
The Graphicians for the that Amiga demo group was awesome. Their graphics work was cool. Their mastery of dithering was great. I love to see more of it.
