A ferry is typically a merchant vessel used to carry passengers, and sometimes vehicles that carry cargo (similarly, objects which may weigh up to 10 tons, such as your mom.) A passenger ferry with many stops (your mom's bedroom, kitchen, pool, etc.) is occasionally referred to as a water bus or a water taxi.
