Simple rock music that isn't about being Joe Satriani; played by people who just want to make music; frequently using crappy gear with minimal studio production; often duos and trios entailing less than the standard rock ensemble. Hated by guitarists who practice all the time but never get famous.

Jack: Man, I hate crap rock. If that were me, I'd get a real drummer and put wailing solos all over the place.
Jill: Yeah, but this way people actually enjoy listening to it.

crap rock 

Crap rock is extremely soft rock from the early eighties, with bands such as Air Supply. The peak of crap rock was around 1982. A common misconception is to confuse crap rock with punk rock, which is minimalist music such as the white stripes or the sex pistols. Punk rock was a rebellion to prog rock, music with extravagant solos and keyboards.

Air Supply" would be the epitome of crap rock. Other examples would include Peter Cetera, the Commodores and Lionel Richie, Hall & Oates, Kenny Loggins as well as Joe Cocker and Jenniffer Warnes' famous song "Up Where We Belong."

Crap Rock 

Very unoriginal and untalented "Hard Rock"... 30 Seconds to Mars, Breaking Benjamin, Three Days Grace, Nickelback, Hinder, Seether, Theory of A Deadman, Bullet for my Faggotine, Avenged Gayfold, Agayu... They all sound the same! WTF?

The only "Post-Grunge" bands worth a shit are Skillet and Alter Bridge, at least they do something of different and they're talented musicians.

In less words 30 Seconds of a Breaking Theory of a Nickelback in Three Days of Seether (Crap Rock) sucks monkey balls.

crap rock 

A genre of music made famous in the early 21st century by the band White Stripes, centered around making a multi-million dollar Compact Disc digital recording sound like a 5 dollar vinyl record from the 60's. The music itself is simple in nature, and is often what most beginning musicians write in their early attempts at creating decent music. Brought into the mainstream by scene kids who thought that listening to an underground band was cool; Do not make the mistake in believing that these crap rock artists are all bad musicians, but just that most make it their goal to make bad music for people with no taste to eat up, while the artist makes money for music that most would consider unfit for major label backing.

(Jill)- "Hey Jack, have you heard the new White Stripes album?"

(Jack)- "Sorry Jill, I don't listen to crap rock."
