Free-to-Pay

A game that is free to play yet cuts the player off at key moments to demand payment. This can occur after losing too many lives, completing a chapter, or forcing the player to make a purchase in order to fulfill an objective necessary to complete a larger objective.
"Battle Nations is an addictive and hilarious turn-based strategy game that combines FarmVille with tanks! The game can be downloaded free, but players are free-to-pay for powerful, exclusive units and also to speed up construction time! Buy 1250 Nanopods for 49.99 USD, and get the edge on everyone else!"

pay-to-win

"Pay-to-win" or "P2W", is a pejorative term for a game that offers any advantage that can be obtained faster or exclusively via commercial transactions over gameplay rewards or the impact of the player's own performance.

This market practice is seen negative because it destroys the sportiveness of games, rewarding mediocre players who look for an easy way to beat the competition or the challenge, instead of promoting fair play.

Imagine, for example, an Archery competition where the archers could optionally buy the right to use laser-dot scope aims in their bows Every archer would look to exploit that artificial advantage, instead of actually improving themselves at the sport.
Don't even downloaded that pay-to-win game. I rather save that money for real games.

to pay your bills on time

to do things right/correctly/the way they are supposed to be done/ on time the first time round, so as to avoid either having to waste more energy, time, money and/or effort redoing the same job twice.
Father: listen, Carl. If I'd be your teacher, I would have reacted the exact same way. Just look at your penmanship. Ça laisse à désirer. I can't even , lol, call it handwriting, it would probably, immb qualify as turkey-chicken scrawl. Now the moral of the fable is of course to pay your bills on time. Now, take this travail bâclé afaap out of my sight and rewrite your homework.

Pay to lose

When a paid cosmetic change or costume actually gives a character a disadvantage in a competitive game.
You know that skin actually makes her skill-shot really easy to dodge. Shit's pay to lose dude.

to pay someone out

To 'pay someone out' or a 'pay out' means 'insulting someone".
A 'payout' is an 'insult'
to pay someone out :

Why did you pay him out, that was seriously uncalled for.

Don't pay someone out because of their race, that's just pathetic...

Paid him out, real good.

hell to pay

In the days of sailing ships "hell" was the term for the bottom of the boat; the hottest, dankest, smelliest area. To "pay" described mopping tar in "hell" to help keep the ship sea-worthy. It was also the worst job to have handed you. Thus the saying, "you'll have hell to pay" or rather you'll be sorry if you don't do as I say.
