Pupil 

The pupil is the the round opening in the center of the iris. It is the colored tissue that makes the "eye color" at the front of the eye. The pupil changes size to let light into the eye. It gets smaller in bright light and larger as the amount of light decreases Pupil is also used as a person who is learning under a teacher or instructor. In this sense, pupil is often used when the student is young but does not strictly apply to young people. In legal terms, pupil can refer to a minor who is under the care of a legal guardian who is not one of their parents.

Ex. 1:
"Today I found out that an alligators pupil can be all sorts of colors!"

Ex. 2:
"He had further success, because some of his pupils were allowed to go on to further study after all."

Ex. 2 (v2):
"Will you take me on as your pupil?"
