Apocaloptimist 

Someone who knows it's all going to shit, but still thinks it will turn out OK

"It" most commonly refers to the environment, or humanity, but could be other things as well.

Guy 1: "The envrionment is being degraded at an unparalled rate, we're literally destroying ourselves... but, it'll probably turn out OK. If we fail, the planet will likely heal itself in our abscence."

Guy 2: "Man, he's such an apocaloptimist."

One who believes that the only solution to most, if not all, of the world's biggest problems is a catastrophic event of epic proportions.

Like their Republican counter-parts in 2008, Democratic Apocalyptists began praying for a Zombie apocalypse after the 2010 mid-term elections.

The often ignored, but blatantly obvious, common theme that ultimately defines all prophetic doomsday predictions: Utter failure.

How many centuries would you stand waiting for a bus to stop and pick you up, just because some misguided bronze-age idiots told you it was 'coming soon'? Substitute saviour for bus and accept the apocalyptifail for what it is.

Apocalyptican

A person who believes so strongly in the apocalypse of 2012, that they totally throw their lives away to whatever thinking that even trying is to no avail towards a happy, "normal" life.

Teenage apocalypticans usually drop out, become assholes towards other people, or just do whatever they please at an attempt to be happy thinking their lives are going to end soon anyway.

But positive apocalypticans usually try to make haste with their "short" lives and try to do good in the world, like trying to help the environment, or protest the war, or just try to be a good person altogether.

John tries to be the best person he could be, he's a vegetarian, he cares for the environment, and he's really friendly, and at the same time, Mathew is just sitting in class staring at the ceiling while he waits impatiently for the bell to ring so he can get out and hang with his friends at the mall, both very different, but they're both apocalypticans.
