Silane

Silane is a pyrophoric gas. Its chemical formula is SiH4.
It spontaneously ignites when in contact with air. (SiH4+2O2->SiO2+2H2O)
Commonly produced with the following process:
1. Silicon dioxide is burned with magnesium, forming magnesium silicide. (SiO2+2Mg->Mg2Si+O2)
2. The magnesium silicide is placed into hydrochloric acid, forming silane gas, which ignites as it bubbles out of solution. (Mg2Si+4HCl->2MgCl2+SiH4)

Evelyn: I just made silane gas from household chemicals!
Tom: Nice! Did it explode or ignite?
Evelyn: It popped as it bubbled out. What an interesting gas.
