San José 

Costa Rica's messy, unequal run down capital cantón. With the terrifying La Carpio neighbourhood in La Uruca, and then having super pretty suburbs outside the cantón in Santa Ana and Escazú.

People there go to Multiplaza Escazú, a very mediocre mall to say the least, but everyone hangs out without even buying anything. They have Costco (well PRICESMART) and it is mountainous, it isn't as hot as the Costa Rican coast, but they are getting there thanks to climate change.

Still some good places to see there, it isn't a full pile of shit yet, but the gringos prefer the greenery and end up in the Pacific Coast or in Puntarenas, meanwhile Limón is forgotten.

Also called Chepe by locals.
