courtesy call

A sugarcoated term used by telemarketers which really means sales call. One of the most deceitful and misleading phrases ever since there is nothing courteous about it.
Telemarketer: Hello, may I speak to Mr. Smith? Hello. This is a courtesy call from Talk America which is inviting you to switch to our service. You'll pay only 10 cents a minute and you get the first 100 minutes free.

Mr. Smith: No thank you.

Telemarketer: Well, sir you get blah blah blah.........

courtesy major

A college major that is provided as a courtesy for students who are too stupid to graduate with a real major.
I'm glad that we got Babs into a college, but how the hell will she graduate? Don't worry. Schools these days have courtesy majors like sociology and education that allow almost anyone to graduate, even those with the intelligence of a sock puppet.

Coursework Day

The day which multiple pieces of coursework are due in.

Inevitably, there will be a large number of absences. All the retarded "cool" kids skive the day.

Courtesy cut-off

The act of making a lane change in a moving vehicle, while placing your turn signal on for one, but no more than two blinks to alert the other driver that you are in the process of cutting them off.
You need to make a lane change; however, if you place your turn signal on for too long other drivers will not let you in the lane.

Instead, you check to see that you can get into the lane, place your turn signal on, and immediately possess the lane. Therefore, giving the other driver a courtesy heads up that you are cutting them off. Hence, courtesy cut-off.

courtesy LOL

The lol given in a text or IM in response to a message that's not funny, but requires a response to be courteous. Like the "courtesy laugh" in conversation.
"Her text was confusing.... so I gave a courtesy lol."

courtesy invite

An event invitation sent to someone solely for the reason that one feels obligated to do so.

For example, there are three roommates and you know two of them well. You may not know the third person as well as the other two--or you just don't like them--yet you feel obligated to invite that person too so things won't get awkward.
Cory: So who's on the invite list?

Bob: . . . Amber, Emily, Roxy--

Cory: I thought you didn't like Roxy . . . ?

Bob: I don't. But they're roommates, so I just sent her a courtesy invite so that things wouldn't get awkward.
